10 Gbps at the interface between the ATM and TP networks
24.09.2007

ATM S.A., the operator of the ATMAN network, put into operation its first interconnect interface to the Telekomunikacja Polska S.A. (TP) network, based on the 10 Gigabit Ethernet technology.

The existing interfaces, based on the Gigabit Ethernet technology, were not sufficient to support the fast growth of the traffic between the ATMAN and TP networks. Until now, the existing 10 Gbps links were used only within the ATMAN network.

The present structure of IP traffic in the ATMAN network is as follows:

  • foreign networks: six providers, twelve Gigabit Ethernet ports
  • domestic networks except for TP: more than 200 interfaces, total traffic ca. 20 Gbps
  • interface to the TP network: one 10 Gigabit Ethernet port, two Gigabit Ethernet ports.

In the near future, it is planned to deploy 10-Gbps interfaces also to international operators, as well as to connect next European interconnect nodes.
