mPay in a very promising mobile payment project

mPay S.A., a company belonging to the ATM capital group, is participating in the largest pilot project of mobile payments currently being implemented in Poland. The initiative, lead by MasterCard, involves four mobile telephony operators, banks, and other partners.

According to the MasterCard’s announcement of August 7, 2009, the project involves four GSM operators, banks, and technological partners, including mPay S.A., a company belonging to the ATM capital group.

The main objective of the project is to build a universal, common payment model enabling the customers of mobile networks and banks to make payments via mobile phones. It is the first initiative of this type to gather such a wide coalition to promote mobile payments in Poland.

“We are very happy that mPay S.A. is participating in the initiative which we see as a very interesting, innovative, large-scale undertaking on the mobile payment market in Poland,” said Roman Szwed, President, ATM S.A. “In my opinion, the participation of experienced companies from various market segments may ensure the success of this project.”

An important experience for mPay will be testing the possibility of using financial means on a debit-card account for making mobile payments under the settlement model proposed by MasterCard, operators, and banks.
